Grief and Loss

Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? Has your life situation changed (i.e., loss of a job, relationship, home)? Is someone close to you suffering from a serious illness that is significantly affecting your life? Are your feelings overwhelming?

Grief is the appropriate response to loss. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. It is normal to experience overwhelming feelings and physical reactions. Grief is a process that at times gets complicated and warrants therapeutic assistance to keep the process moving forward.

Therapy can help you:

  • Learn about the process of mourning
  • Manage your feelings of sadness, anger and exhaustion
  • Find safe ways to discuss overwhelming feelings
  • Develop new coping skills
  • Learn to protect yourself from insensitive, hurtful comments
  • Adjust to painful changes

Grief and Loss Support Group, Maplewood, NJ

I periodically offer short-term therapy groups for individuals 18 and older who are experiencing a recent loss or a past unresolved loss. Through mutual support and professional facilitation, group members can heal from loss and process grief in a supportive group environment. Members are encouraged to share their experiences, challenges and successes related to the grief and loss they are experiencing. Members benefit from both giving and receiving support. Group size ranges from 5–8 members.
