Chronic Pain

Posted by MPC on April 21, 2014 in Resources | 338 Views

Many Clients experience periodic acute pain or chronic pain (which is often back pain) and I recommend exploring the mind body connection and considering possible emotional and psychological factors such as repressed anger and fear. I recommend reading Dr. John Sarno’s book, “Healing Back Pain”.  Below is a quick summary of Dr. Sarno”s approach to healing back pain.

Pain is due to TMS (muscle tension), not structural abnormality

Direct reason for pain is mild oxygen deprivation

TMS is a harmless condition, caused by my repressed emotions

The principle emotion is my repressed anger

TMS exists only to distract my attention from the emotions

Since my back is basically normal there is nothing to fear

Therefore, physical activity is not dangerous

And I must resume all normal physical activity

I will not be concerned or intimidated by the pain

I will shift my attention from the pain to emotional issues

I intend to be in control not my subconscious mind

I must think psychological at all times not physical
